A Mini "Museum" for the Movie
By: Dimas Harjono

This book consists of four parts: - The concept sketch. We can see the initial design and storyboard in their watercolor form. - The concept art. This take most of the part of the book. Mainly, it shows us a series of screencapture from the movie. However, there's also steps about how the team design the background or the characters. - The technology behind the movie. The team explained the techniques they used in the production. - Screenplay. Basically it's every dialogue from the movie, from the start until the end.

Before I get the book, I thought that this book will be filled by technical stuffs like storyboard, character design, story writing, or such.... See More

Instead, this book is like a museum where we can revisit the movie and learn a little about what the staff thinking and doing when they worked on the project. I said museum, because the contents are light, so we won't get overwhelmed by difficult terms, and the pages are full of pictures with short description about them.

Because of the content is mostly pictures from the movie itself, you may be disappointed with this book, that you may not see that much new information. However, I take this approach as a chance for us to appreciate how much work the studio gave to bring us a great movie such as Spirited Away.  We can also see the visual details we might have missed because of the pace of the movie.
